Crypto People: Famous Crypto Supporters

Crypto has been around long enough that most people have at least heard of it, even though not many have a full understanding of what it is – and even fewer know how it works. And, as with all things that are vaguely familiar, it helps if a familiar face is attached.

In the cryptocurrency space, this has led to a number of celebrities lending their support (or selling it, to be more accurate) to a number of crypto companies they understood very little or not at all. Pretty much all of these companies failed, either by not raising enough funds or by failing to comply with minimal regulations.

So, who got tricked into promoting shady currencies or projects? The list includes DJ Khaled, Floyd “Crypto” Mayweather, Paris Hilton, Steven Seagal, Gwyneth Paltrow, Lionel Messi, Jamie Foxx – and Kate Perry’s nails. It is unclear whether any of these people truly hold any crypto or even know what crypto is. As usual, they remain unscathed by scandal.

There are, however, quite a few names in entertainment, IT and finance whose word has more weight. Other than support bought with hard cash, then, who of the big names out there is really a crypto fan?

Mike Tyson owns Mike Tyson Bitcoin, a Bitcoin ATM company.

In Europe, Prince Felix of Luxemburg and Lady Monica Bacardi, heiress of the Bacardi empire, are backing TaTaTu, a blockchain video platform that had one of the most successful token sales of all time.

Richard Branson was an early adopter and investor. He accepted Bitcoin payments for Virgin Galactic flights, invested in BitPay and Blockchain, and is an unwavering crypto supporter.

John McAfee is one of the more vocal supporters. Other than investments, he has also made wild predictions about the price of Bitcoin.

50 Cent accepted Bitcoin for his 2014 Animal Ambition album. He got about 500 Bitcoin, but he didn’t hodl. Instead of $3,000,000 now, he just got under $700 then.

Nas is another rapper who knows a thing or two about crypto. He is a VC and has invested in Coinbase and various crypto-related projects.

Mark Cuban, although not fully convinced, is still investing massively in new or pre-existing projects.

Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss are the stars of the crypto world (and billionaires in Bitcoin, most likely). They invested early and often, own a currency exchange and a number of valuable patents in this space.

Ashton Kutcher has invested in various technology startups. He owns (and understands) crypto and has invested in a couple of crypto services.

Bill Gates is happy with the concept, but unhappy with how crypto can be used for nefarious purposes. His brainchild, Microsoft, is working with the blockchain technology.

Howard Schulz, CEO of Starbucks, thinks there is a future ahead for blockchain and crypto. Starbucks is now partnering with Microsoft and ICE for a crypto platform, Bakkt, which will convert digital assets (i.e. cryptocurrency) into U.S. dollars to be used for payments.

When talking about the big shots out there who speak vehemently against crypto, you’ll notice they are mostly old finance, people whose conservative practices are potentially threatened by new decentralized models. When you look at crypto supporters, what these people have in common is that they are younger, nimbler investors who have grown among more adaptive markets. Who you trust, though, is your call.
